Facials Q & A

What is a HydraFacial?

A HydraFacial is an aesthetic procedure that improves the health of your skin. Your aesthetic expert uses a special device to clean and peel off old, dead skin — revealing healthy new skin underneath — and unclog your pores by extracting blackheads and whiteheads.

The HydraFacial also nourishes and moisturizes your skin with superpowered serums that are rich with protective antioxidants and peptides.

What are photofacials?

At Helena Dermatology & Montana Aesthetics PC, Dr. Vellanki and her team perform traditional facials but also rejuvenate your skin with IPL photofacials and lasers. Light- and heat-based facials improve your appearance by:

  • Removing brown spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Evaporating small visible veins
  • Clearing acne lesions
  • Restoring health of follicles to prevent acne
  • Smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles
  • Firming, toning, and tightening your skin
  • Clearing rosacea lesions
  • Stimulating your skin to produce new collagen and elastin

Lasers and IPL photofacials create both immediate effects and those that become apparent months after your procedure. Your skin gets healthier and firmer as it rebuilds itself.

How does IPL improve my skin?

An IPL photofacial reaches past the surface of your skin and scatters light energy to the underlying dermis layer.

Dr. Vellanki adjusts the light to match the pigment of the hyperpigmented lesions and veins you want to remove. The extra pigment absorbs the heat, and the lesions and spider veins disintegrate.

Photofacials with IPL also improve acne, including inflammatory acne that hasn’t responded to other treatments. An IPL treatment is especially helpful for women of childbearing age who can’t take systemic retinoids.

The IPL kills Propionibacterium acnes — the bacterium that’s one of the main causes of inflammatory acne — and improves the health of your follicles, too.

How do lasers rejuvenate my skin?

Lasers treat both the surface of your skin and its underlying layers. When directed at brown spots and visible veins, lasers remove the excess pigment and help your skin regain an even color and tone.

By heating the deepest layers, lasers create microwounds that prompt your skin to sweep away old, tired strands of the proteins collagen and elastin, and produce new ones.

After laser treatment, your skin begins to rebuild itself from its innermost layers with new collagen and elastin. Over the next several months, you’ll notice that your skin not only looks clearer, it also looks and feels thicker and has more resilience.

Laser facials tighten your pores and improve the health of your follicles so that you’re less likely to have an acne outbreak. Lasers can even improve the look of rosacea lesions and subdue redness.
